A note on the invitations…

The invitations you received were printed on Korean traditional paper (한지 / hanji) from a local Seoul printer. The invite is intended to be used as a bookmark! The design is inspired by common pairing in Korean art, as well as the saying “용호상박 / yong-ho-sang-bak,” which describes two equally matched forces meeting one another with strength and spirit. Dragons and Tigers depicted together represent cosmic balance. Jason was born in the Year of the Tiger and Ellen in the Year of the Dragon, so we thought it would be a fitting motif for our wedding! Our friend Audrey McGonagle is the artist who created the design!

여러분께 전달된 청첩장은 서울의 한 인쇄소에서 제작한 한국 전통 종이인 한지에 인쇄되었습니다. 청첩장은 책갈피로도 사용할 수 있도록 디자인되었습니다! 이번 디자인은 한국 미술에서 흔히 볼 수 있는 용과 호랑이의 조합과 사자성어 용호상박에서 영감을 받았습니다. 이는 서로 대등한 두 존재가 힘과 기세로 맞서는 상황을 표현하는 말입니다. 용과 호랑이가 함께 그려지는 이미지는 우주적 균형을 상징합니다. 임경무은 호랑이띠에, Ellen은 용띠에 태어나 이 모티프가 저희 결혼을 잘 나타내는 상징이라고 생각했습니다! 디자인 작업은 저희의 친구인 Audrey McGonagle가 맡아주었습니다!
