초대의 말씀
You are invited!
저희의 첫 데이트 장소는 보스턴의 오래된 헌책방, 브래틀 북숍이었습니다. 테드 창의 소설 「네 인생의 이야기」로 금세 가까워졌고, 동물과 자연을 좋아하는 마음까지 꼭 닮은 서로가 평생의 짝이라는 것을 알기까지는 오래 걸리지 않았습니다.
그 후로 저희는 서로의 꿈을 응원하고 때로는 밀어주고 때로는 끌어주며 함께 5년을 지내왔습니다.
그 사이 고양이 프레스트윅과 봄버스를 가족으로 맞았고, 지금은 곁에 없지만 늘 그리운 강아지 루나 베어와도 소중한 시간을 보냈습니다.
오는 5월, 창덕궁 곁에서 서로 다른 두 문화와 두 가족이 한자리에 모입니다. 저희가 사랑하고 저희를 아껴 주시는 분들, 오늘의 저희를 있게 해 주신 분들과 부부로서의 새로운 시작을 축하하고 싶습니다. 귀한 걸음 하시어 함께해 주시면 감사하겠습니다.

Our first date was at the Brattle Book Shop in Boston, where we bonded over Ted Chiang's "Story of Your Life." We found out we both love animals and nature, and it didn't take long for us to know we were meant for each other.
Since then, we've grown together, chasing our dreams and pushing each other along the way. We've raised two cats, Prestwick and Bombus, and we were lucky to have our dog, Luna Bear, who we still miss.
This coming May, beside Changdeokgung Palace in Seoul, our two families and two cultures are coming together. We'd love to celebrate the start of our marriage with the people we love, who love us, and who have shaped who we are today.

한 장의 초대에 담긴 이야기
A Note on the Invitations
여러분께 전해드린 청첩장은 서울의 한 인쇄소에서 한국 전통 종이인 한지에 인쇄했습니다. 책갈피로도 이용하실 수 있도록 디자인했습니다.
그림은 한국 미술의 용과 호랑이, 그리고 ‘용호상박(龍虎相搏)’에서 영감을 받았습니다. 용호상박은 힘과 기개가 대등한 두 존재가 맞서는 모습을 뜻하며, 함께 그려진 용과 호랑이는 우주의 균형을 상징합니다.
호랑이띠인 경무와 용띠인 엘렌에게 이 모티프는 저희 두 사람을 담기에 어울리는 상징이었습니다. 소중한 친구 Audrey McGonagle (@audbirds)이 그림을 그려주었습니다.
The invitations you received were printed on Korean traditional paper (한지 / hanji) from a local Seoul printer. The invite is intended to be used as a bookmark! The design is inspired by common pairing in Korean art, as well as the saying “용호상박 / yong-ho-sang-bak,” which describes two equally matched forces meeting one another with strength and spirit. Dragons and Tigers depicted together represent cosmic balance. Jason was born in the Year of the Tiger and Ellen in the Year of the Dragon, so we thought it would be a fitting motif for our wedding! Our friend Audrey McGonagle is the artist who created the design!
